I remember living through a vicious, intense storm in my home state of North Carolina. I was hoping that I could ride it out, but the rain was getting worse. The wind was getting worse. And just as it felt like the walls were starting to bend from the pressure, the power went out.
Just like that, I’m in trouble. And I jump into action - I grab the candles and start lighting them all around the living room. I turn on some flashlights, I start thinking about the food in the fridge. But as I’m doing this, I notice my wife, staring at me and biting her cheek.
“Listen,” she says over the thunder. “You need to blow all these fire hazards out and go get a generator.”
She’s right as usual. This is one of those storms that soaks you through no matter what you’re wearing, but I get a poncho and umbrella and get out there.

First : you have to be willing to think at a scale that matches your problems.
